Jae Crowder from Marquette has earned StatSheet's Big East Player of the Week award for February 20th. Providence's LaDontae Henton has won StatSheet's Big East Freshman of the Week. Finally, C.J. Fair from Syracuse has won StatSheet's Big East 6th Man of the Week.
Crowder was tops in the Big East in scoring (29.0 pts per game) and free throws (9.0 per game). He also put up respectable numbers with 60% shooting, 12 rebounds per game, and 3 steals per game. The Marquette senior played well for the Golden Eagles in a victory versus Connecticut.
This is the first time this season that Jae Crowder has been selected StatSheet Big East Player of the Week. However, he has been a runner-up more than once and received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is Marquette senior Darius Johnson-Odom. Honorable mention goes to Kevin Jones, a senior from West Virginia.
StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week: Providence's LaDontae Henton
LaDontae Henton was on the floor an average of 40 minutes starting both games for Providence. In an 81-66 loss to Cincinnati, Henton topped the Friars in rebounding with 9 and tossed in 66% shooting. Following that in a 63-53 loss to Georgetown, he added 3 assists and 4 steals.
This is the second time for LaDontae Henton, who won the StatSheet Big East Freshman of the Week earlier this season. The runner-up is Gary Browne from West Virginia. Honorable mention goes to Todd Mayo from Marquette.
StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week: Syracuse's C.J. Fair
C.J. Fair, a 6-8 Sophomore forward, averaged 36 minutes over two games for the Orange. In a close 52-51 win over Louisville, Fair took the lead in scoring for the Orange with 13 points on 41% shooting. Then in a 74-64 win over Rutgers, he led all scoring and rebounding with 21 points and 8 rebounds.
This makes 5 times that C.J. Fair has won the StatSheet Big East 6th Man of the Week award this season. Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, a junior forward from South Florida, is runner up. Mike Poole, a sophomore guard/forward from Rutgers, receives honorable mention. The highest ranking 6th man from Pittsburgh was J.J. Moore who finished 4th. Pittsburgh has one StatSheet Big East Player of the Week win this season.
